The new musical arrives in Edinburgh this summer
Exclusive: Lady Macbeth Played Wing Defence has released an EP ahead of its run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
The original musical reimagines the Shakespeare classic through the lens of a high school netball team.
Having premiered in Australia, the award-winning hour-long show is now giving audiences a first listen to the opening numbers that set the stage for the play.
With a script by Courtney McManus, the piece has lyrics by Bec Price, Ana Ferreira Manhoso, McManus and music by Price, who also directs.
Featuring on the EP are the cast: Courtney McManus, Orla-Jean Poole, Kate Sisley, Shannon Rogers, Ana Ferreira Manhoso, Gabriella Munro, Georgia McGivern, and Emily Semple.
Three tracks, titled “Pick Your Player”, “Thunder, Lightning, Rain” and “Trap a Rat” are available on streaming now.
Georgie Black, founder and creative director of House of Oz, commented: “It was a no-brainer to award Lady Macbeth Played Wing Defence our 2025 Purse Prize, the show had me at ‘hello’.”
Black added: “That title says it all – the Scottish play, plus competitive netball, plus girl power? Too good! No wonder they sold out a week before they even got on a plane to Adelaide. And OMG – the soundtrack! I challenge anyone not to be singing those stonking songs in their sleep. I certainly do!”
The Crash Theatre show will play at Assembly George Square (Studio One) from 30 July to 25 August (not 6th, 13th, 20th).
