It tells the story of the first all-women racing crew of Maiden
Exclusive: Maiden Voyage, a new musical by Mindi Dickstein and Carmel Dean, has announced the casting for its world premiere.
Produced by Mark Cortale, Dale Franzen, Jonathan Murray and Harvey Reese in association with Shared Experience, it tells the story of Tracy Edwards and the first all-women racing crew of Maiden who made history competing in the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race in 1989/90.
The musical will be directed by Tara Overfield Wilkinson and features orchestrations by Michael Starobin, with musical direction by Simona Budd. Set and costume design is by Abby Clarke, with lighting design by Megan Lucas. Casting is by Harry Blumenau, and Kirsty Malpass serves as associate director.
Set to star will be Chelsea Halfpenny (Tracy Edwards), Naomi Alade (Jo), Laura Tyrer (Pat), Shahaf Ifhar (King Hussein), Juliette Artigala (Michele/Tanja), Alex Bowen (Dawn Riley), Molly Cleere (Nancy), Sam DeFeo (Mandi), Olivia Hewitt-Jones (Marie Claude), Rowan Macpherson (Sally), Olivia Mitchell (Claire), Billy Roberts (Walter/Reporter/Navigator) and Daniel Robinson (Howard Reporter).
Maiden Voyage will open at Southwark Playhouse Elephant on 26 July, with previews from 19 July, and play to 23 August.
